Apparantly some football clubs do this challenge to see how good guys muscular endurance is.
Pretty much you have 40kg (10kg each side on an olympic bar) and you simply bench press until you get to 100 reps. you are against the clock so you have to do it as fast as possible. you can rest as many times as you need. the trick is to have enough rest to allow yourself to puch out the reps but dont rest too long or else the clock runs up too much.
Now according to a guy at my gym Doncaster rovers stated that their players aim to do it in under 15 minutes. and an elite athlete may be able to get around 1 minute 40 seconds.
I decided that no poncy footballer would beat me so i gave it a go last night after legs.
I managed 60 reps on my first burst, had 5 seconds rest then got another 20, another few seconds rest and got another 20. my score: 1 MINUTE 55 SECONDS
i was really happy about this. then my trianing partner had a go.
He had done bench press before id got to the gym (100kg x 35 reps and then 60kg x 100 reps), then he trained legs with me, then did 30 minutes intense boxing work (and i mean painfully intense), he had done shoulders the day before as well so was aching. pretty much i didnt expect him to do well as he was wiped out.
i was wrong. He did 100 reps straight off in an amazing 55 SECONDS nearly 2 reps a second.
I challenge anyone on here to beat that!!
